The Bible expounds upon God’s marvelous character, the creation of the world, His purpose for creating man, and His wonderful plan to redeem man. His character is revealed through His created works, because they are an expression of His thoughts.
When we understand why He created the world, and for whom, then we can understand our purpose in life better and can serve Him aright. What the world really needs is to have a clear knowledge of God. Most people do not really know Him as they should. Job says, “Behold, God is great, and we know Him not…” Job 36:26. For those that do not know Him they complain that He is not a loving God, otherwise He would do something about all of the suffering in the world. There are others who do not acknowledge His existence and do not recognize His presence in their life. Some believe that He is a cruel exacting God who is sitting back waiting for man to sin in order to inflict pain, suffering and punishment upon them. This is what Satan would have us believe, but God's character is just the opposite. He is overflowing with deep love and great mercy for us, and is looking for ways to deliver us from temptation and sin and the power of Satan.
The Bible tells us what His thoughts are towards us. “As the heavens are higher than the earth, so are my ways higher than your ways, and my thoughts than your thoughts.” Isaiah 55:9. “For I know the thoughts that I think toward you, saith the LORD, thoughts of peace, and not of evil, to give you an expected end.” Jeremiah 29:11. His thoughts toward us are not to bring destruction upon us but to save us. What He wants is for us to become acquainted with Him. He holds out an invitation to us in Isaiah 1:18, “Come now, and let us reason together, saith the LORD: though your sins be as scarlet, they shall be as white as snow; though they be red like crimson, they shall be as wool.” He wants to pardon our sins and provide us with all the wonderful blessings He has in store for us; and truly has already provided for us through His created works.
WHAT THE BIBLE SAYS ABOUT THE CHARACTER OF GOD
The Lord reveals His goodness by what He does and the Bible says, "The Lord is good to all: and His tender mercies are over all His works." Psalms 145:9. “Blessed be the Lord, who daily loadeth us with benefits, even the God of our salvation. Selah. 20He that is our God is the God of salvation…” Psa. 68:19, 20.
